For this show, I'm not posting the entire show, but only what I thought was interesting. Starting with...
There's voting at the Bloggers' Quilt Festival and "Hiraeth" is up. Have a look at the rest of the pieces in the category, and if you think mine deserves to win - please vote for me. :)

Hello to all festival go-ers. Welcome to Kit Lang Art!
Today I am showing you a piece I finished earlier this year, called "Hiraeth".

"Hiraeth" (c) 2013 Kit Lang - 39" x 29"
Two weeks before Christmas in 2012, I came across the word "hiraeth" on Facebook. I'm an avid reader, and work with words for a living, but had never seen this word before. A quick Google search informed me that it was a Welsh word with no real English equivalent - but it's closed meaning was something like "homesickness tinged with grief or sadness over the lost".
I was shocked today to read of the death of Kathreen Ricketson of Whip Up
This is a strange post to write. Kathreen's passing is a loss to her partner (should he be found) and a huge loss to her children and loved ones. There is no doubt that her passing is a loss to her friends, and her co-workers. And her passing will be a loss as well to all those who read her blog daily.
But I'm not one of them.
I have never interacted with her. Not even once.
And yet her passing has reminded me once more, that life is soooo damn short. We don't have tomorrow, or next week or next year - we might not even have the rest of the damn day. We only have right now. Right now. That's it.
So, remember when I decided to remove "the dude selling Christmas trees"? I was left with this - which was a problem.
But how to cover it up? I tried painting it (didn't help), melting it (the base of this piece is a man-made fabric) but it only scorched it. So then I tried painting the scorching which also didn't work, so I had to remove the paint and then scorch the whole thing to match, giving it a nice, yellow cast (good thing I'm not planning to enter it in any shows!) and then I sat and puzzled till my puzzler broke.
So what did I do?
Wow! It took so long that it feels like it was quite the saga to get here, but it wasn't really - it was just one billion stitches, a stitch at a time. :)
Okay, maybe it wasn't one BILLION, but it was a lot! (That pic is clickable by the way - click once to open it and then twice to embiggen - and will be MASSIVE if you want to check out the detail).
But speaking of details...
My friend Beth sent me a link to this video - an interview with Alice Kettle.
Her work is just.. wow. I'm gobsmacked, speechless, my world, as they say, is rocked.
Three times in a row I've watched it now, as well as looking at her image gallery on Google and her site (kindly provided by arlee barr) HERE.
Have a look - it'll be worth your time.
\
P.S. - and while I'm recommending - you should check out arlee barr, too. Her work is amazing!
Having gotten back to stitching, I've been adding more detail (all the pics are clickable today if you want to see things bigger); more of the seeded grasses, some mushrooms here and there, and that little squirrel (who I think I might need to be hand-stitched too. Ruh-roh!)
And I might need to add a thread or two of a brown-ish yellow to the mushrooms to give them more dimension.
This little area is pretty near done, I think - except, somehow, I have to fit in a little yellow thread or floss somewhere on those vines... and maybe some seeded grass just to the top right of the fence post...
And, after hours and hours to remove "the dude selling Christmas trees" I STILL haven't figured out what to do to cover up the mess.
Okay, maybe I have more to do than I thought.
'Cuz maybe there needs to be some more mushrooms. And a butterfly or two. And a mouse! Don't you think there should be a mouse? :)
Well, that's *my* weekend. Hope yours is good one!
Linking up with Nina-Marie for "Off The Wall Fridays". Come check out what everyone's up to!
Got the thinkin' cap on - this time focussing on a conversation I had with BSP on Friday night.
It all revolves around time. Time is my enemy. It works against me, conspires to confound me; I am deeply aware and almost fearful of the passage of time.
As a result, I've spent years feeling resentful, and trying to curb that feeling of resentment. Almost since I made my first quilt five years ago, I have felt resentful of the time I spend away from my studio. There were so many quilts I needed to make. I made nearly 30 quilts that first year – mostly queens and doubles, a few twins, a lot of laps and a couple of baby quilts.
People were shocked at the amount I was producing, but I was driven.
